Type Locality and Naming

Hu Jimin (1979) named the Huitangqiao Formation. The type locality is in Huitang bridge of Qidong County. The Geological Survey Team of Hunan (1973) referred the strata to the Shenhuangshan Fm. The present lexicon follows the name of Huitangqiao Formation.


Lithology and Thickness

The Huitangqiao Formation is composed of brownish red calcareous siltstone, siltstone and mudstone alternations. It is intercalated with grayish green mudstone and fine-grained sandstone. It varies from 660 to 3000 m in thickness.

The Huitangqiao Formation is conformably underlying the Luojingtan Fm.

It is distributed Qidong, Mayang, Jiangkou, Hengyang basins.
